Families

Family membership applies when those from the same immediate family join at the same time. This applies to Intro Courses and Full Members only (due to the already lower cost of other membership types e.g. associate, day). Discounts as follows:

  • When three family members (maximum of two adults) join at the same time, each will get 10% off the normal rates (above).
  • When four or more family members (maximum of two adults) join at the same time, each will get 20% off the normal rates.

Should some family members already be members, and then a 3rd, 4th, 5th member etc. join at a later late, then only those new members will have the discount applied i.e. no rebates of 10% or 20% for the existing family members. For the avoidance of doubt, a child is considered to be anyone in education up to and including Year 13.

*Coaching levy –new–

ALL members – new and returning – will need to pay a coaching levy for certain events. This fee applies on all trips that start away from the Salisbury clubhouse, to any member whose experience level means they fill a ‘slot’ under the Standards for Deployment ratios. Nominated assistants under SCC’s SFD policy are usually exempt from this levy. In the event that multiple paddlers could be appointed assistants, but the SCC SFD policy does not permit the appropriate number of assistants, these people should not be charged the levy. By exception, the coaches/committee may provide other judgement that specific members are sufficiently experienced, or otherwise positively contributing to the trip, such that a levy is not due for that member.

For example, for a Grade 2-3 trip to the Dart Loop, any paddler not acting as a leader or assistant would have £2 added to their dues. This will be collected alongside fuel and other shared expenses by the treasurer following the trip.

Why is SCC charging this? Paddle UK, the governing body of the sport, announced new mandatory standards for deployment with a phased timeline for implementation. As SCC has prepared for this over the last year, it has funded additional coaching qualifications to ensure we can routinely meet the new ratios when they come into force. This means the same great trips, without SCC needing to constrain capacity beyond the numbers we normally expect. This training has come at a cost, and will continue to do so. The committee and attendees of the 2025 AGM agreed that targeted charging for those trips requiring the most coaching (i.e. away from our home turf) was most fair. Hence, a coaching levy.
